Join us in welcoming Mikel Wintermantel to Newport. Explore the techniques of dramatic light, simplified color, and harmonious composition with Copley Master, Mikel Wintermantel. Paint side-by-side with the artist using his streamlined, layered approach to painting. Watch as he demonstrates his simple palette, color choices, compositions, corrections, close observations, tool choices, and chemistry.
Mikel Wintermantel has had an expeditious rise in the art world with his luminous landscapes. He was accepted into the prestigious Copley Society in 2002 and attained Copley Master status in 2006. He was also awarded the John Singleton Copley Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement and was featured in the November and December 2008 issues of American Artist magazine. His workshops are a perennial favorite at the Copley Society in Boston and was featured in the premiere issue of American Artist Workshop magazine.
The Mikel Wintermantel workshop will be held at Isherwood Gallery on Bellevue Avenue, within walking distance to food, lodging, mansions, shopping, and the waterfront.
The space is limited to ensure that each participant receives individual instruction. Classes are 9 to 5 each day and include demonstrations, individual help, and group discussions. Students may work in oil or acrylic and on their own subject matter or on the same image as Mikel. Participants are also encouraged to bring in work to receive individual assessment in any stage of development. Artists of all levels are welcome with some previous drawing experience.
